1Gate Implements Automated Timing System for Go-Kart Track

Project Overview

“Monaco – Nghi Sơn Art City” is a tourism destination offering a wide variety of unique and exciting services, including off-road ATV experiences on a 4km-long track, mini Formula 1-style Go-Kart racing, kayaking, and artistic photo opportunities at the central art plaza. 1Gate has partnered on this project to implement a real-time automated timing system for the Go-Kart race track.

Requirements

Go-Kart is a type of four-wheeled vehicle known for its small size and low center of gravity. With ground clearance typically below 100mm, Go-Karts are stable and less prone to flipping during sharp turns. The sport is growing in popularity, with various scale competitions held around the world. In Vietnam, several professional Go-Kart tracks are now operational to meet the entertainment needs of speed enthusiasts.

The Go-Kart track at Monaco – Nghi Sơn has a total length of approximately 750 meters and features multiple challenging corners. The previous timing system used cameras to track performance, but it lacked the speed and precision required.

As a result, the investor requested 1Gate to implement a new timing system that meets the following requirements:

  • Real-time automated lap timing
  • Timing per race lap and cumulative total for all laps
  • Millisecond-level accuracy
  • Results must be transmitted to a computer and displayed live on a TV screen

Implementation Plan

  • Attach RFID tags to all Go-Kart vehicles for identification.
  • Install RFID readers and antennas at the start and finish lines.
  • Each time a Go-Kart passes the start or finish point, the RFID reader and antenna will automatically detect and identify the vehicle.
  • The timestamp for each start and completed lap will be transmitted to a computer. 1Gate’s automated timing software will calculate lap times in real time and display the results on a TV screen.
